The Archives of the Australian Museum hold much evidence on the history of the Museum. The following pieces provide some summary information on key aspects of the Museum's history.
An important first source for any historical research on the Museum is Rare and Curious Specimens. An Illustrated History of the Museum 1827-1979, edited by Ronald Strahan, published for the Museum's sesquicentenary in 1979.
