The Backyard Biodiversity Study enables schools to get involved in scientific research through investigating what types of invertebrates they have in their local area. There is still a lot to learn about invertebrate diversity, so studies like these are very useful.
The Backyard Biodiversity study was developed by the Australian Museum's Education Division in 2000, when we received one of 44 Science and Technology Awareness Program grants. With this financial support, we worked with 27 central schools throughout New South Wales to investigate their local invertebrates. One of the main aims of the study is to apprentice students in scientific techniques and current research.
This project now includes all schools in New South Wales, both country and city. We would like your school to get involved.
