It is made of manganese, carbon and oxygen. It is a calcite group mineral.

N' Chwaning Mine, Kuruman, northern Cape Province, South Africa.

What is it used for?
Rhodochrosite can be a source of manganese as well as being cut and polished as a precious stone. Manganese is used to make a shock resistant and abrasion resistant steel.
