One of the aims of the trip was to fill in gaps in knowledge of the distribution of fishes along the northern New South Wales coastline.

Species more typical of tropical waters, such as this Saddled Butterflyfish Chaetodon ephippium, are dispersed into New South Wales waters as larvae by the East Australian Current.
