Spotted Stargazer

One of the unusual fishes collected was this Spotted Stargazer, Ichthyscopus sannio.

It has a large bony head with the eyes positioned dorsally (hence the common name, 'Stargazer'). Above the pectoral fin is a frilled fleshy appendage.

This fish lies on the bottom, often buried in the substrate, waiting for prey to swim above.
