Rough Humpbacked Scorpionfish

The Rough Humpbacked Scorpionfish Scorpaenopsis macrochir was another interesting find. Three specimens were collected at Kingscliff, on 3 December 2002 (AMS I.41846-027).

They are the first New South Wales records and a southern range extension. The species had been previously recorded south to Southport Seaway, Queensland (Johnson 1999).

In contrast to the apparent drab colouration of this fish, the inner surfaces of the pectoral fins are brightly coloured (view image).
