Fishes - Australian Museum Fish Site

The Fish Department - Fieldwork

Mindoro Island, 2000

Many of the fishes collected were photographed. This image shows Mark Westneat (standing) and Jeff Williams carefully pinning the fins of a small fish. After pinning, the fins are painted with formalin to keep them in position while the fish is being photographed. Much of the processing of specimens was done at night by lamplight after a day of collecting.
