Natalie Soars completed a BSc (Marine) with Honors from Sydney University in 2006.

She is working with Jeff Leis on descriptions of larval Tropical Snappers (family Lutjanidae).

As their name implies, the Tropical Snappers are mostly found on tropical reefs. The larger species often have well developed canine teeth and eat mostly fishes, although crustaceans and cephalopods are also consumed. Some smaller, more slender species are planktivores.

Natalie's employment in the Fish Department extended from 19 March to 30 June 2007.
