Masao Taniguchi is currently in the second year of his Masters degree under the supervision of Dr Yukio Iwatsuki at the Faculty of Agriculture, Miyazaki University, Japan.
He is working on the sparid fishes (family Sparidae). In particular he is working on fishes in the genera Argyrops, Evynnis, Pagrus and Acanthopagrus.
Masao visited the Australian Museum from 12 September till 16 September 2005, after spending four days working at the Queensland Museum.
