This site plots the location of capture of fishes in the Australian Museum Fish Collection. The fish collection contains approximately 1,600,000 specimens. Fish Department staff have worked hard to improve the accuracy of the data on this site, but there is still considerable work to be done. We take no responsibility for the use of these data. Questions and possible mapping errors should be directed to the Collection Manager.
Note that nearly all larval fish records are retrievable but not all ‘adult’ records. Records that contain sensitive data or are only partially identified (ie, not identified to species) are not displayed. Please contact the Collection Manager for information on our holdings of ‘partially identified’ adult material.

Fish distributions can be displayed on maps of New South Wales, Australia or the world. The large world map can be opened in a larger window by clicking the right mouse button.
