Fishes - Australian Museum Fish Site

Collections

A juvenile female White Shark 2.3m in length (AMS I.31291-001). This fish was caught by commercial fishers off Bermagui, New South Wales in April 1991. The dark colour of the alcohol results from oil leaching out of the huge liver of the shark. In fact, earlier this century shark liver oil was used to light the street lamps of Sydney.
