In March 2004 the Fish Section's 'pet' Queensland Groper went on a holiday. The fish, which has resided for years in the Fish Section offices is currently on display in the new Uncovered Exhibition.
The images on this page show the fish as it made its winding way up to the gallery.
The top image shows the fish being carefully wheeled up the WIlliam Street footpath by Materials Conservation Officer Colin MacGregor, front left, and Preparations staff Mickey Mahoney, Glenn Wright, Tina Mansson and Dave Teer. The Museum's Old School Building is to the right.
After a short trip up the footpath, the fish 'scaled' the deliveries driveway (second image). A firm grip on the trolley prevented the fish rolling down the driveway and out into the traffic.
The third image shows the fish in the elevator on its way up to the ground floor gallery. It was a very tight fit.
The bottom image shows the fish in pride of place in the Uncovered exhibition.
