I have captured two specimens of the Fan-tailed variety of mullet in the northern Gulf of Mexico, one of which is mounted on the wall. In my lifetime of commercial fishing (30+years) I have seen countless mullet Mugil cephalus but only two Fan-tails. I have one in my freezer that looks like a dwarf.

Most of the unusual specimens I have seen were obviously the victims of industrial pollution (open sores) and marine litter.
