Skeletal Details

Fossilised right femur of Homo habilis

Museum number/name

KNM-ER 1472

Where specimen was found

Koobi Fora, Kenya 1972

This Homo habilis bone shows the same shape and structure as that of modern humans, but is a little shorter. It subtends the same angle at the knee as that of a modern human and the inner bump of the knee joint is larger than the outer one. This shows that Homo habilis was also a bipedal walker.
