snails and sea-slugs: molluscs

Chromodoris woodwardae

Chromodoris woodwardae. This south-eastern Australian chromodorid is always found associated with this sponge. The irregular band of white around the edge of its body are glands containing distasteful chemical poisons that it has removed from the sponge. These chemicals, developed by the sponge for its own protection from fish, are re-used for the same purpose by the nudibranch (10mm).
