snails and sea-slugs: molluscs

Invertebrate Zoology -

Jorunna

Jorunna sp. Many sponge-feeding dorid nudibranchs are similar in colour and texture to the sponge they feed on. This species (30mm) also changes colour to match the colour of the sponge. Related species have been shown to actually take pigments from the sponge to ensure a perfect colour match. The white spiral is the egg coil, many microscopic eggs being enveloped in the jelly-like mass.
