snails and sea-slugs: molluscs

New Caledonian Sea-Slugs

Research Scientist: Dr Bill Rudman

The marine life of New Caledonia is very similar to that of tropical eastern Australia, and its coral reefs rival those of the Great Barrier Reef. A knowledge of the fauna of New Caledonia is essential to understanding the tropical marine life of eastern Australia. With financial support from the French Government, Dr Bill Rudman has been preparing a scientific monograph on the opisthobranchs of New Caledonia. At the same time he is preparing a book for the general public, illustrating in colour at least 400 species from the region. As many also occur in Australian waters, this will be an invaluable guide for divers, ecologists and interested naturalists.
