Mathew Crowther is a Lecturer in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Sydney and a Research Associate at the Australian Museum.
He is currently a member of the IUCN Specialist Group in Australasian Marsupials and Monotremes, and the CRC for Pest Animal Control.
Mathew's research interests include the taxonomy and ecology of small mammals, particularly dasyurid marsupial and rodents. He uses a wide range of material from the Museum collections including skulls and teeth, proteins, DNA, to study morphology, reproductive biology, and ecology in his resolution of cryptic species. He is also interested in various aspects of wildlife management such as pest control and conservation. Mathew and co-workers have described a number of species of dasyurid marsupial including the Agile Antechinus (Antechinus agilis) and the Subtropical Antechinus (Antechinus subtropicus).
Current research is on various aspects of the biology of the feral House Mouse (Mus domesticus).
