
Harry Parnaby is a bat specialist who began research on the Mammal collection in 1983. This was at the commencement of his PhD on the Systematics of the Long-eared Bat genus Nyctophilus. Over the years his focus has been on the taxonomy of Australian bats, evaluation of bat species conservation status, and assessment of human impacts on bat species, particularly forest bats.
Harry Parnaby has been a specialist adviser to a range of government authorities including Environment Australia, New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service, Roads and Traffic Authority, State Forests of New South Wales, New South Wales Scientific Committee and a number of local governments. He has appeared as an expert witness on bats in Commissions of Inquiry and for the New South Wales Land and Environment Court.
He has undertaken fieldwork throughout Australia, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
