No doubt about it, we live in a wired world. What with satellites, optical fibres, coaxial cables and good old fashioned copper wire, it's hard not to stay in touch. So ...
I'm sure you've guessed that I want to remind TAMS members that we have our own website. Just go to www.amonline.net.au/tams. Once there it's as easy as 'click click' to find information about TAMS, our events and programs, and 'Talking Science', the volunteer radio program which airs on Radio Eastside 2RES-FM. And just to make life easier, you can book on-line for virtually all TAMS activities.
What's more, if you click on 'Contacting TAMS' you can send messages to all of us at the TAMS shop: Vice-President Lawson Lobb; Sandra Harrison, the woman who runs the show; and me. We're really keen to get your ideas ... and your email address!
You see, if you're interested in hearing about TAMS special events or receiving reminders about upcoming activities, we can add you to our exclusive e-list. And if you decide that you don't want occasional messages, let us know and we'll take you off our database which is ours and ours alone! Even ASIO won't track you. Of course, we'll continue communicating via 'snail mail'.
Thanks to the digital revolution, TAMS is also able to offer a new special service to members which we call 'Express Lectures'. These will be talks - organised on the fly - that we know will be of tremendous interest to members ... say, the discovery that ET lives in Alpha Centauri or the successful cloning of the Tassie Tiger and Australian Museum Former Director, Mike Archer. Express Lectures will be cheese-and-wine free and free-of-charge. Warning: don't be surprised to see members of the media attending Express Lectures. We anticipate a hot 'breaking story' or two.
That's it for now. I'll see you on-line.
Leigh Dayton
President of The Australian Museum Society
