Trilobites

Trilobites are represented in all periods of the Palaeozoic Era in Australia, with species described from every state and territory. Their classification and species-level diversity is summarised in Australian Trilobites: A Species List and Bibliography

Strengths of the Australian Museum trilobite collection are the Upper Silurian of the Yass district, New South Wales, and the Lower Carboniferous of the New England Fold Belt, New South Wales. Other important trilobite collections are from the Middle Cambrian of northwestern Queensland, uppermost Cambrian-basal Ordovician of far western New South Wales, and Lower Silurian and Lower Devonian of central west New South Wales.
