Palaeontological Excursion in China with Sydney Grammar School 30/6/2002 to 15/7/2002

Introduction

Working at the Australian Museum and funded by a Sydney Grammar School Research Fellowship, Dr. Yongyi Zhen is actively involved in a research project studying Australian and Chinese Ordovician (490 to 434 million years ago) conodonts. Conodonts are an extinct group of microfossils related to Chordates, that may add crucial information to the regional biostratigraphy and palaeo-biogeography. His research is a group activity in close cooperation with palaeontologists from the New South Wales Geological Survey, Macquarie University, Beijing University and Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology. Yongyi also provides assistance to the Sydney Grammar School in the areas of palaeontology-related teaching and on the field excursions in Australia and overseas.
