![]() Field SitesPalaeontological Excursion in China with Sydney Grammar School 30/6/2002 to 15/7/2002The 2002 field trip to ChinaYongyi has recently helped the Sydney Grammar School to organise an excursion to China. The group of 14 participants (including ten students aged 13 to 16, two teachers, one school technical staff and Yongyi) visited China from 30 June to 15 July 2002. The excursion took palaeontology and Chinese history as its main themes. Differing from popular tourist sightseeing routes, this trip was strongly focused on educational purposes and participants had the opportunity to visit not only popular city destinations, but also the countryside and rural areas, where foreigners have rarely been before. It aimed to provide the participants with first hand experience of some of the most important new discoveries in China in the field of palaeontology. It was also an opportunity to learn about Chinese history, culture, arts, and society, as well as the landscape, wildlife, and geological history. During the trip participants visited various museums, well known historical sites and palaces, archaeological relics, art galleries, traditional art and craft factories, ancient temples, and various market places in five major cities across eastern China. Yongyi put a lot of effort into organising the itinerary. He also successfully arranged for palaeontology experts in China to show students and teachers various fossil sites, such as the feathered dinosaur site and the first discovery site of the Chengjiang biota, and to lead the group in fossil hunting at these sites.
