Shining, sparkling, perfect minerals.
These were Albert Chapman's passion. From the age of 12, Albert collected and later traded minerals and built up one of the greatest collections in the world. The specimens in his collection come from all over the world, but it is the quality and diversity of the Australian minerals that make the collection so important.

Albert had very high standards when collecting and trading minerals. As a result, there are many perfect specimens in the collection, including some from Broken Hill that are considered the best ever found in that area. Albert's collection is considered to be one of the top ten private mineral collections in the world.

The Albert Chapman Mineral Collection exhibition at the Australian Museum was opened in 1996 and is a beautiful display of colour and light. The minerals are spectacularly lit so that every feature is shown off. Computer interactives help highlight and explain some of the most wonderful pieces and the whole exhibit is a stylish tribute to Albert Chapman and his passion for minerals.
